Wind Ensemble...

Wind Ensemble is the highest of the three bands at the high school. Concert Band (for all the freshmen), Symphonic band (some freshmen, lots of sophomores, some juniors and this year one senior-Brent XD *palmface*), and Wind Ensemble (very few sophomores, lots of juniors, and all the seniors - except for Brent XD *double palmface*). Auditions for Wind Ensemble were held a few weeks before the POPS concert which was just two weeks before the last day of school and the list of chairs in WE and SB were posted the day after the Concert. So on the day Ms. Garcia put the list up Aubrey (Clarinet) comes to me at lunch and says "YOU MADE WIND ENSEMBLE!!!!!!" and I start FLIPPING OUT cause I'm so happy right? And THEN she says "I think you're second chair!" and I'm like "Whaaaaat? But if Rae is first chair then that means I beat Eric!" And we all know impossible that is because we all know eric is spectacular and he was also first chair of Symphonic Band this year (I was first chair of Concert Band). So I go to the band room to see if this is really actually the truth (this is after the dizziness subsided) and the list is posted outside the door, and sure enough, the list for WE says:
Rae Carlson - Trombone
Lainey Lee - Trombone
Eric Powell - Trombone
Jacob Weiss - Bass Trombone

So I start hyperventillating cause I'm so shocked and excited and happy surprised and proud of myself and I'm like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! because Eric is my best friend and I knew right from that moment that things were going to be sooo awkward between us. So now, like I thought, things are awkward, BUT we both faced it upfront and were truthful with each other about how we felt and he said that he is going to challenge me next year (or is it this year? I'm not sure yet...) but you know what? I'm confident that I am going to win the challenge because I got my chair with my tenor trombone (my only trombone), while he has an F attachment which means he can play the C which is normally played in sixth position in first now because of the extra tubing (hense the F attachment) and he can also hit lower notes too because the low F is in sixth and the attachment lets you play it in first so you can keep going out so you can (in theory) play a low B natural below the staff. Well, I don't have an F attachment so I had to play all the Cs in sixth position instead of in first, and there were plenty of Cs in the audition piece. SOOOOO if he had a slacker instrument and STILL placed below me, I am confident that I can maintain my position and be the best at it. I will do my utmost BEST to impress Ms. Garcia. Rae already believes in me and she will be a senior next year (I will be a sophomore like Eric), so that's also something to look forward too. I'm hoping Rae and I will grow closer as friends this - or is it next - year (we certainly had a blast doing the musical last - or is it still this - year). SO LETS ALL HAVE HOPES THAT I WON'T SCREW UP AND DISSAPOINT EVERYONE :D

Previously in Choir...

Choir is bipolar.

I'm not even kidding when I say that. Choir has been my safe haven for years, but it's also the center of drama. A LOT of drama.

See, when I talk about choir being a huge but tight knit family, it also has its downsides, LIKE there are some prima donnas who think they have the best voice out of everyone, and that they deserve all of the solos because of it.

I'm really sad to say, but as the time goes by, more and more people have stopped being humble, and are willing to cut eachother's throats to get to the top. I, for one, have seen it happen, and I hate being part of an environment where people are so rude like that.

Don't get me wrong, I love choir and all, but...I wish people would just accept other people's talents and stop being out for theirselves.

10 Reasons Band is Amazing

(Here is my rebuttal.) ;)

Reason #1) Band is amazing because you get to spend 100 minutes a day playing the instrument you love.

2) Band is amazing because you make friends with lots of upperclassmen (especially if you do Marching Band) who will love you and take care of you and call you "MY FRESHMANNN". It is a big band family! (yay)

3) Band is amazing because you finally feel like you belong. You finally know that you belong.

4) Band is amazing because you get to go on all sorts of trips! Like the silverwood trip this year (my first band trip) from which I took away some spectacular experiences.

5) Band is amazing because of the SUPER-AWESOME concerts of which there are four year round, not incuding OMEA and the Spring Trip.

6) Band is amazing because of the Freshman Awards awarded to the freshmen by the Seniors at the POPS concert. Like when Jeff (trombone section leader from marching band) awarded me the "Loudest Player" award. yaaaaaaay!

7) Band is amazing because your band teacher automatically becomes one of your best friends and it's not even awkward at all. Well it can be sometimes...

8) Band is amazing because you are suddenly opened up to many, MANY different genres of music. If it weren't for band I wouldn't be so crazy about classical music like I am today!

9) Band is amazing because you can make friends with people from other bands on competitions like Marching Band competitions and at summer band camps and on the Spring Trip and even find love...*GETTING TOO INTO THIS* Anyways yes, amazing friends from other cities/states/countries etc who you can always friend on FB and keep in touch with!

And I know I can't beat Kat's final reason, but here is mine ~

10) Band is amazing because it's where I met and found myself.

Without band my life would be so JFLDOEAWHGDLKS:J so that is why band is amazing. :)

Top 10 reasons choir is so freakin' amazing

(Just to start out with some healthy competition, Lainey) ;D

1. Choir is awesome because of the community you build between other people. I have made AMAZING friends through the choir system.

2. Choir is awesome because I get to do something I really love (and I think I'm good at), which is sing.

3. Choir is awesome because even if you're not the greatest singer, people like you anyway.

4. Choir is awesome because you can meet guys who can sing!!! <3>

5. Choir is awesome because you learn about songs you didn't even know you liked, and you can learn how to harmonize.

6. Choir is awesome because of the parties that you get after you were amazing at a concert.

7. Choir is awesome because you get to TRAVEL. New York City, anyone?

8. Choir is awesome because it's a graded class, even though everyone is pretty much guaranteed an "A".

9. Choir is awesome because you've automatically got a group to sit with at lunch.

AND THE FINAL REASON:

10. Choir is awesome because that's where I met Lainey. :D

Kat and Lainey: the Musical

Hi, Lainey here. So I guess I'm writing the first post. Should be Interesting. In the musical of Kat's life and mine, she is the star of the show, and I am the entire pit orchestra. We decided that moments ago over Gmail chat. Lawlz. So here's to what we hope will be a very interesting blog...
Cheers.
